City with Dwellings: A Community First Initiative

City with Dwellings cultivates a community of care so that people can move with dignity from trauma and homelessness to healing and housing stability. We provide safe spaces, foster belonging, connect people to next-step resources, and expand shared knowledge and understanding around the complex issues related to homelessness and housing. We’re working to create a healthy, trauma-resilient community for everyone. We accomplish our mission through: person-centered problem solving; day services featuring next-step resource navigation; and peer-based supportive housing services.

The Dwelling

The Dwelling is a faith community in downtown Winston-Salem intentionally rooted with neighbors who are currently or formerly unhoused. We are not in ministry to or for people experiencing homelessness — we are a community with, building God’s beloved community together. Grounded in community, accompaniment, and a counter-cultural witness, we affirm that housing does not equal worthiness and that every person carries inherent dignity and holiness. Through worship, feasting, showers, transportation, storytelling, and shared leadership, we restore dignity, cultivate belonging, and work toward a world where all people are safely and sustainably housed.
